Title: SAMS203: Experience Samskritam III
Placement: Summer after SAMS202
Pre-Requisites: SAMS202

 

Course Overview:

 SAMS 203 is a six-day residential Samskritam (aka Sanskrit) course designed to give students an advanced Samskritam language immersion experience. The course will focus on exercising advanced conversational skills in a primarily Samskritam speaking environment. Students will continue to study intermediate grammatical topics while becoming exposed to various forms of Samskritam prose. Students will be provided with opportunities to share their knowledge and expertise to motivate SAMS103 students. Students will continue to gain an appreciation of Indian culture and the different applications of Samskritam by living in an environment similar to the ancient “Gurukulam” system of India.

 

Course Objectives:

  1. Speak only in Samskritam for one week
  2. Write and enact skits in Samskritam
  3. Read and understand proverbs, moral stories, dramas, and contemporary short stories.
  4. Make presentations on the contributions of various Samskritam scholars to the fields of math, science, medicine and philosophy
  5. Create material to motivate other students to study Samskritam

 

Grading Plan:

SAMS203 is a pass/fail course. Students will receive credit for the course once they have successfully completed the entire six-day residential camp. Students who do not show up for the course, or fail to attend the entire six-day residential camp will fail the course. Students must pass SAMS203 before taking SAMS301.

 

Placement:

SAMS203 is offered during the summer each year in the Northeast and near San Jose, California. Please see the SAFL course website for more information.
